| Artist Statement I’m subconsciously selecting Chinese traditional rice paper and ink as my main medium is because they convey a specific rhythm that we can only feel from the Oriental spirit. The interweaving of water and ink created a strong reaction of interchange that, indeed, mingles a splendid energy and rhythmical beauty. I love the naturally fabricated textures that always reveal the essential forms of our life and the ultimate spirituality of our universe. I always seek for a fusion of tradition and non-tradition, Oriental and Occidental ideology and methodology. Perfect combination of conventional eastern ink with contemporary western water-based colors can certainly produce new visual effects: overlapping layers of textures and coats of colors depict maximum expressions; intentional and accidental procedures bring spaces of virtual fantasy.I feel that abstract painting is like a spontaneous performance in that you can’t find a certain pattern to follow. When I’m painting, my unrestrained passion always leads me to a brand new unknown world. Sometimes I discovered new thoughts and opportunities by my accidental force or even mistakes during painting. Establishing new visual pleasures on new techniques of painting is a never ending exploration. Such a voyage must take off with the artist’s eternal enthusiastic intuition. However, visual language links a common sentiment between artist and viewer, which is the fundamental and final purpose of painting.
