About the Artists Coral Hou & Wei Sheng Zhong

Coral Hou and Wei Sheng Zhong were college schoolmates. In 1983, they both graduated from the China PLA Academy of Art in Beijing. Common interests and likeness brought the two young artists together. A few years later, they were married. Full of enterprising spirits, they never hesitated to explore various painting materials and forms. Their works received many national art awards. In 1995, they immigrated to the United States, and now live in Orlando, Florida. The journey for them was not simply a geographic move, but also a journey that provide opportunities for them to experience a totally different culture. The difficulties of living in a foreign country did not destroy them but ignite their infinite imagination and massive passion for creation. With a full new view of life, the artists expanded their field of vision for art in a whole new dimension.
Their paintings use the Chinese traditional rice paper
and ink
as the basic medium and it incorporates various
water-based mixed media
to achieve a mirage of imagery and a feeling space for
the
viewer to experience,
Their abstract artwork
has injected the modern life into the art of ink painting and it
has touched the illusions and dreams latent in our innermost being, their
artwork
in many ways expresses their deepest love for nature. It articulates a
sincere and ultimate care for life. “Life is all about experiences. The road to explore art is like an adventure. Together we endure the hardships, enjoy the happiness life brings and encourage each other when feeling lost or confused. Along our adventure, some new ideas have been discovered and utilized, while others have been discarded or left behind. Nevertheless, we are going forward, toward our goal –our dream.”

仲伟生和侯珊瑚是大学同学,
1983年,他们都毕业于北京,
解放军艺术学院, 美术系.
共同的兴趣与爱好,使他们的命运走到了一起,
毕业后他们结为夫妻, 在艺术上他们勇于实践,
对各种绘画材料和形式都有过广泛的探索,
他们的作品曾多次参加国内和国际性美展并获奖.
1995年, 他们移居美国,现生活居住在佛罗里达洲,奥兰多市. 漂泊对他们来说不只是地理的位移, 更可贵的是文化的链接, 跨文化的交流与沟通整合了他们的文化修养,开阔了艺术视野, 生活的风风雨雨不但没有摧毁他们的意志, 反而激活了他们的想象力和创作激情,促使他们对大千世界和自身处境加深了认知, 对艺术的理解产生了质的飞跃. 他们夫妇创作的抽象水墨画作品以传统的中国宣纸和水墨作为基本的表现媒材, 并综合各种现代水溶性颜料,创造出一种虚拟的意像空间供观赏者自己去体验,他们的作品将水墨艺术注入了现代新生命, 触及的是潜藏于人们内心深处的梦幻世界.表达了他们对大自然的热爱和对生命的深切感悟与关怀. "人生在于体验, 而艺术的实践就好比是一种探险的旅行, 庆幸的是我们是两位同路人, 我们共同分享着这份艰辛和快乐, 互相勉励着走出迷失与困惑, 一路上, 一些东西被发现,一些东西离我们远去, 一些东西曾经被丢弃但又被重新找回. 然而, 我们依然在努力前行, 随着道路的不断延伸, 逐渐接近着那个目标 --- 我们的梦......"
